About Katy-Marie Lyles
Katy-Marie was born and raised in East Texas with an older sister and younger brother. Being the daughter of a Methodist minister and registered nurse, she learned early on that serving and caring for others was a part of life. Due to her father’s ministry, she had the opportunity of growing up in several small towns in East Texas and graduated from Lindale High School in 2002.
Following high school graduation, she moved to Aggieland to join big sister in continuing the family tradition of attending Texas A&M University. She decided her freshman year she wanted to obtain a degree in sociology and was considering seminary or law school.
KM followed her passion to serve others and began interning every summer in ministry, and was working full time in ministry when she completed her bachelor’s degree in Sociology, from Texas A&M.
Upon graduation, she was working full-time at A&M Methodist Church. She became impassioned when there seemed to be a conflict between the Northgate community where the church is located, and the city of College Station. Led by her desire to help she decided the only way to help the situation was to run for city council. Then 24-year-old, KM ran against a 21-year incumbent who had previously been mayor. The community was astonished when the race ended up in a runoff election.
On her 25th birthday, KM was sworn into her role as a College Station City Council Member. She was the youngest person to ever win election to the council. This would be of the hardest and best experiences of her life. Her term was completed in the fall of 2012. While she still maintained her passion to serve and help others, she decided she would attend law school.
In January 2013 KM began law school in Tampa Florida at a satellite campus for Western Michigan University Thomas M. Cooley Law School. In August 2015, she was back in Texas interning at the District Attorney’s Office in Brazos County. In January 2016, she graduated Cum Laude with her Juris Doctor, and passed the Texas Bar Exam in February.
In September 2016, she gladly accepted a position as an ADA at the Galveston County District Attorney’s office and served there for almost two years. After leaving the DA’s office KM started her own practice and has really enjoyed working in six different counties on a range of different cases.
